Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Performs professional accounting work with responsibility in one or more areas of the University accounting system such as financial reporting, cost analysis and distribution, classification of accounts and funds, study of accounting systems and sponsored programs accounting. Focusing on sponsored award receivables and maximizing clinical trial revenue.

Specific Responsibilities:

Under general direction and with latitude to exercise independent judgment within established policy:

Sponsored Award Receivables (50%)

Develop and coordinate a process for Identifying Sponsored Award Receivables that are collectible, uncollectible and true grant deficits

  • Determine how to collect outstanding receivables more efficiently

  • Work with SMD Finance and SMD Departments to solve outstanding receivable issues

    Work with the Office of Research and Accounting Costing Standards (ORACS) to develop a mechanism within UR Financials (Workday) for the regular reporting of billed and unbilled receivables

    Monitor and determine URMC’s sponsored award cash position

  • Develop a comprehensive action plan related to the collection of Sponsored Award Receivables and provide recommendations to upper level management

    Work independently and alongside the SMD Finance and Administration Team

  • Report findings to Financial and Administrative Manager and other as necessary

    Maximize Clinical Trial Revenue (45%)

    Work with the Office of Clinical Research to develop and coordinate a process for determining how much clinical trial revenue can be collected

    Develop/assist departments in the development and implementation of processes to maximize clinical trial revenue based on study criteria

    Present data/findings to update upper level management

    Provide recommendation on a continuous basis to the Maximizing Clinical Trial Revenue Committee

    Miscellaneous (5%)

    Assist departments on an as needed basis in collaboration with SMD Finance, ORACS and Office of Research Project Administration (ORPA) related to clinical trial revenue maximization

    Other duties and projects as assigned

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance and 3 years experience as a staff accountant; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong knowledge of UR Financials/Workday preferred.
