The Senior Associate will provide general analytical support for the Department of Pediatrics and thereby contribute to the growth and success of the research enterprise. Working with considerable independence, and latitude for exercising independent judgment, creativity, and decision making, the Senior Associate will consult to provide advice regarding analytical needs, and execute analytical and statistical tasks. This position will provide support to a broad array of Departmental scientists including trainees (eg., residents, graduate students, fellows), faculty and their designees. In some instances, the position may be asked to analyze statistics on departmental research and/or administrative data regarding the productivity/efficiency of the enterprise. The Senior Associate will gather information, analyze and interpret data, and report results following standard reporting practices. The position requires attention to detail, awareness of time-sensitive work, and a high level of organizational and communications skills and independent judgement.

Research Specific Requirements

Meets with departmental investigators and trainees to identify appropriate data sets, and/or analytical and statistical approaches customized for individual research projects.

Provides consultation about study design/research methodology, power analysis, and general statistical plans, especially for trainee or pilot clinical research projects. Develops justifications for statistical analysis needed for IRB proposals and grant applications.

Independently executes analyses, as needed, with time supported by Departmentally funded as well as extramurally funded research projects.

Perform validation of all data that is obtained to ensure integrity.

Following execution of analyses, presents results to investigators following standard reporting practices.

Supervises graduate assistant level students who are supporting faculty or trainees.

Education Responsibilities

Presents educational sessions for members of the Pediatrics research enterprise regarding analytical approaches, the identification and execution of basic statistical analyses, and related topics.

Develops curriculum and teaches pediatric residents and fellows in areas related to clinical research methodology, data management, and visual display of data.

Assist in design, development and programming of systems needed to meet optimum data presentation goals.

Departmental/Administrative Responsibilities

Assist the Vice Chair for Research, Senior Research Administrator or Division Chief(s)/Program Director(s) in the analysis of departmental research and/or administrative data regarding the productivity/efficiency of the enterprise. These efforts may include statistics regarding status of sponsored projects finances, grants, publications, program expansion, and strategic plans. May be asked to present at Leadership, Faculty, Departmental Meetings.


  • M.S. in Biological Sciences or equivalent degree, Ph.D. preferred.

  • Previous experience designing research projects, performing data analysis, and presenting results.

  • Experience supervising students, as well as sufficient skills to write manuscripts and analytic plans.
