Under general direction and with latitude for independent judgment and initiative, the Senior Associate will serve as a critical resource providing direct analysis support, programming, and data management for research studies supported by the NCI Community Oncology Program (NCORP), individual faculty grants, an R25T program and other activities of the Division of Research within the Department of Surgery.
Among professional opportunities and responsibilities are to:
Collaborate with study investigators in the development of study designs, evaluation of study endpoints for appropriate data management methods, and calculation and justification for study sample size. This includes directly collaborating with investigators and information analysts in issues of design, sample size estimation, pilot testing, and evaluation of cancer control concepts and protocols. Create the randomization tables for cancer control studies and maintain active involvement in all phases of analysis of the Research Base trials, including final data quality assurance, validation of assumptions, and analysis.
Provide data support to the R25 fellows, including mentoring and assistance with pilot study design and data analysis for publications and abstracts.
Responsible for weekly T32 fellows seminars and teaching of fellows in research study methods, data science and public health research.
Participate with the NCORP Cancer Care Delivery Research team, providing expertise in support of the distributed data network project, and related projects aimed at capturing medical data for research.
Assume responsibility for pre-analysis data auditing and management for selected NCORP studies. Develop software and procedures that improve upon our ability to put the NCORP data into a form suitable for analysis. Assist the project lead in the analyses of these studies
Prepare study analysis plans; perform periodic reporting as necessary by the study guidelines. Create specialized reports related to studies based on parameters provided by study researchers as warranted.
Provide support for programming in SAS or R, working with large databases of different formats to combine and transform them into analysis datasets. Maintain documentation of all dataset activities.
Develop and implement standardized quality and logic checks to validate data accuracy as needed. Work with research faculty and labs to correct data errors and maintain documentation in databases for easy referencing to ensure consistency in the decision making process.
Serve as a Data Management Deputy-Chair for the NCORP Research Base.
Be a significant contributor to the reporting of the methods and findings in the literature and for presentations and professional networking at National Meetings.
Attend National Conferences as appropriate to increase professional competence.
