Serves as a strategist, subject-matter expert, lead writer and creator of complex content for the Office of the EVP and Administration & Finance Division, a University organization consisting of numerous business and operations departments and units that support both the academic and medical centers.

With limited supervision, develops and implements integrated communications plans that support key objectives of departments and programs for A&F strategic priorities.


Communications, Social Media, Graphic Design

  • Generally, serves as communications consultant, lead writer, web strategist, and social media content creator for the assigned area. Collaborates with the University Digital Communications, URMC Communications and University Creative and Brand Strategy teams to complete work requests and serves in supportive and/or back-up role to the teams when needed.

  • Serves as a creative contributor for assigned executive communication projects within the Office of the EVP, including high-level presentations for the Board of Trustees Works with team members and supervisor to understand daily, weekly and monthly priorities of the Office of the EVP and A&F Division, and directs work to align with these priorities. Participates in department and/or other meetings as assigned.

  • Serves as editor and “consultant” for print or online newsletters, as needed. Work includes, but is not limited to: creating and publishing print or online newsletters; maintaining editorial planning calendars; producing editorial guidelines and/or policies for approval; interviewing patients or staff members; drafting newsletter articles, story summaries, and headlines; copy-editing articles drafted by others; and providing monthly reports on e-newsletter performance that analyze opens, click rates and other factors, making recommendations and conducting tests to improve performance.

Community Engagement

  • Develop and implement comprehensive, strategic community engagement programs for assigned area in order to foster strong relationships with various stakeholder groups within the University community, including students, faculty, staff, patients, visitors and local residents.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with various departments to integrate community engagement initiatives into their respective programs and activities.

  • Plan and execute a range of community outreach activities, such as events, focus groups, and educational programming to gather feedback, build trust, and promote open dialogue.

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of community engagement efforts through the collection and analysis of relevant metrics, including social media engagement, event attendance, and survey feedback.

  • Prepare and present regular reports and presentations to senior leadership, highlighting the impact of community engagement initiatives and recommending strategies for continuous improvement.

Strategic Communications

  • With minimal supervision, develops and writes a variety of moderately complex content aimed at internal and external audiences. Projects may be assigned, but this role is responsible for identifying content needs and producing work independently, with minimal reviews by a supervisor or team member.

  • Serves as a subject-matter expert for assigned strategic service lines or programs. Maintains relationship with department leaders and staff, attends important meetings, and takes other steps to stay current with what is happening within the department/service line, and higher ed sector overall.

  • Assists in developing and implementing annual communications plan to support the strategic objectives of assigned service lines or programs. Develops and leads execution of program components that support the annual plan.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism or related field

  • 5 years of relevant experience

  • or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Understanding and compliance with HIPAA requirements

  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing and editing content based on target audience

  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills

Pay Range

Pay Range: $63,815 - $95,723 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
