Sr Dev Ops Engineer

Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The DevOps Engineer Sr designs, develops, configures, tests, implements and maintains core University application systems. The engineer builds, tests and maintains the infrastructure and tools to allow for speedy development and release of software. The engineer configures, administers, maintains and monitors systems including the University’s enterprise World Wide Web infrastructure and associated services, including the operating systems, data, storage, backup systems, etc. System support includes user administration, patching, system upgrades, and disaster recovery preparedness. The position focuses on simplification of the software development process. The DevOps Engineer assists with application development and maintains the continuous integration stack, including source control, continuous integration, and automated testing and deployment. The position provides support during disaster preparedness drills and input to business continuity planning discussions.
Responsibilities:
Configures, administers, maintains and monitors software stacks such as the University’s enterprise World Wide Web infrastructure and associated services, including the operating systems, data storage, backup systems, etc.
System support responsibilities include user administration, patching and system upgrades and disaster recovery preparedness.
Designs, develops, configures, tests, implements and maintains core University application systems.
Adheres to best practices with source control, automation, testing and software development.
Translates business requirements into configurable software components and rules.
Develops technical specifications and system design documents, as needed.
Provides after-hours and weekend on-call support of systems and services when scheduled.
Provides incident and problem troubleshooting, resolution, and root cause analysis in order to ensure platform stability.
Responds promptly to service issues reported thru the service desk or from other system administrators or team members.
Orchestrates and automates the deployment of software and infrastructure solutions.
Develops solutions intended for rapid software deployment.
Performs proactive performance monitoring, analysis, alerting, reporting, and tuning as well as proactive capacity analysis and provision solutions
Performs maintenance activities when required, including during holidays, after-hours, and weekends.
Other duties as assigned (project or operational tasks as required)
Qualifications:
Required:
3-4 years of related experience.
Demonstrated proficiency in managing large high visibility web environments.
Proficiency in Object Oriented programming
Experience with Apache management
Strong experience with Linux operating systems
Experience with PHP programming
Strong scripting skills (Bash, Perl, etc.)
Experience with MYSQL
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Quick learner with ability to multi-task and meet required deadlines
Ability to contribute both individually and as part of a team
Experience with Front-End development (HTML,CSS, JavaScript)
Ability to travel to and from Data Center facilities
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in a related discipline such as Computer Science, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Science, Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Master’s degree
Experience with systems management tools such as Puppet, Chef or Ansible
Experience with WordPress
Experience with Nagios, Cacti and/or other monitoring tools
