As assigned within University Human Resources, exercising thorough knowledge of University Policies and Procedures and Human Resources practices, provides customer service and support in carrying out aspects of Human Resources programs including employment, benefits, EEO, employee and labor relations, and/or wage and salary administration. Performs non-routine and independent tasks, and provides training and mentoring to other Human Resources Assistants. Provides support for University projects, programs or initiatives. Promotes the HR Experience through the HR Values of Respect, Integrity, Inclusion, Performance Excellence and Engagement. Consistently demonstrates the 15 HR Experience Behaviors categorized under the five dimensions of ‘One Inclusive Team, Performance Excellence, Leading with Integrity, The HR Experts and Valued Customer Resource.’

  • Provides non-routine information to Deans, Directors, Administrators, Managers, Supervisors, and Employees of the University regarding policies and procedures, pertinent to departmental and/or University programs and other issues by assessing specific situations and applying guidelines to make recommendations.

  • Interprets and communicates University policy and procedures. Reviews and approves HR forms, making decisions related to exceptions to University Policy. Updates and maintains records through computerized systems.

  • Initiates and reviews for completeness and accuracy enrollment application forms, applications for benefit changes, claims for benefits, data processing, carrier records and reports; assists individuals to obtain supporting documents (e.g. birth certificates) and reviews for adequacy.

  • Processes requisitions to fill current or prospective vacancies. Keeps hiring department/applications/recruitment sources informed as to the progress of recruitment and placement efforts. Maintain skills bank and identify appropriate candidates. Administer typing skills test.

  • Creates ad hoc reports and compiles necessary information in support of analysis using HRIS data, Personnel files, Wage History Cards, Market Survey Data, New Hire Data, Turn Over Data, Applicant Tracking and Grievance Data. Composes and types non-routine confidential correspondence.

  • Assigned special projects in support of HR programs.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in software packages including MS Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Netscape used in the analysis and presentation of documents. Specialist on complex applications.

  • Arranges meetings including grievance hearings and conferences.


    Associates degree and 3 years experience in Human Resources or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
