Responsibilities

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Design, implementation, support, and on-call responsibilities for the continually growing wired and wireless Enterprise networks at Strong Memorial Hospital, University of Rochester Medical Center, and affiliated hospitals encompassing 500+ offices at 200+ geographically remote locations. Manage and support (care and feeding) of the complete Cisco wireless environment that services 29,000+ peak clients (200,000+ unique monthly) by approximately 6,000 wireless access points.

DETAILED OVERVIEW:

  • Handle network tasks related to the daily operations and engineering of the complex Enterprise wired and wireless network infrastructure

  • Analyze results from active or passive wireless network surveys to design new deployments or re-work existing legacy deployments

  • Coordinates wireless solutions with vendors and internal customers. Work collaboratively with other Network Engineers, Desktop Support, Systems Administrators, Firewall Security, Policy and Compliance teams to design processes and services that meet Enterprise connectivity needs

  • Owns the design process from initial consultation to full design deployment while coordinating all wireless related tasks to meet project milestones and go-lives. These include but are not limited to creating estimates and quotes for renovations, new locations, expansions, or augmentations

  • Provide expert technical knowledge, guidance, and training to other team members in best practices for wireless networking design, troubleshooting, and consulting

  • Coordination of wireless site surveys, configuration of hardware to meet deadlines and go-lives and interface with business partners or vendors for support and recommendations

  • Keep detailed, accurate documentation of project information, contacts, configuration settings, and designs. Participates in the identification, creation, and documentation of network standards, policies, processes, and procedures

  • Employee will be a daytime escalation resource for ServiceNow tickets through the Network Operations Center, identifying the issues, and resolving as needed. Minimal participation in Network Operations Center coverage will be expected. Employee will participate in after-hours on-call rotation to support 24/7 network operations.

    DETAILED UR REQUIREMENTS:

    Bachelor's degree in related discipline such as Computer Science, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Science or Engineering, and 4-5 years of related experience, preferably 2-3 years in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

    DETAILED PREFERRED TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Expert understanding of 802.11 standards and its amendments, RF signal fundamentals, RF component and antenna concepts, 802.11 security and encryption. Knowledge of supporting protocols including DHCP and radius authentication

  • Expert familiarity with the use Cisco Networking Software (Cisco IOS, Cisco IOS XE, and Cisco NX-OS). Complete understanding of interconnection and troubleshooting techniques for network hardware to include switches, routers, and centralized wireless controllers with remotely located wireless access points

  • Knowledge of and experience with wireless site surveying fundamentals and best practices. Knowledge of modern wireless survey, diagnostic, and troubleshooting tools

  • Experience designing, configuring, managing, and optimizing enterprise-class wireless on hardware from a major vendor (Cisco preferred)

  • Expert level experience with Cisco DNA Center and Cisco DNA Spaces is preferred.
