A new research staff scientist position in the laboratory of Xinping Zhang at the Center for Musculoskeletal Research. Under general guidance of the principle investigator, the staff scientist will participate in a research program centers on cellular and molecular mechanisms that orchestrate osteogenesis and angiogenesis during repair and regeneration. The research program integrates bone tissue engineering, vascular biology, and skeletal biology with emphasis on blood vessel specification in regeneration. The staff scientist will lead multiple research projects in the laboratory and will be responsible for designing and performing experiments, analyzing data, helping with manuscript and grant preparation, overseeing and training other lab personnel.
Directs and works independently on projects that utilize transgenic fluorescent mouse lines to perform single cell sorting and RNAseq analyses to identify gene of interests.
Manage and lead collaborative research projects that utilize AAV or lentivirus based gene transduction to manipulate gene expression in various cell types.
Collects, analyzes and evaluates experimental data and interprets results within the scope of the study
Prepares written reports on all phases of laboratory work involved in research projects.
Contributes to the design, interpretation and final writing of research publications – thereby meeting expectations for co-authorship of scientific publications.
Designs independent pilot research projects, contributes to writing of research proposals, prepares regulatory documentation required for performance of research.
Develops and installs operating procedures for the laboratory, and independently operates complex equipment required for completion of the project.
Writes protocols for the conduct of research, which include: purposes of study, design of experiments, lists of materials and methods to be used and the schedule of activities.
