Position Summary:

Provides financial analysis and project management for the Department of Finance within MFG. The Department of Finance is located within the University of Rochester Medical center.

Reporting to the URMFG Chief Financial Officer, this role requires a developed understanding of clinical and administrative processes, an ability to manage a multi-faceted project across a variety of settings, departments, and programs, experience with program development and implementation, and building consensus across multiple stakeholders in a medical academic center setting. This position also requires analytical abilities to support identification, implementation and on-going evaluation of programmatic areas of opportunity. The Supervisor Financial Projects participates in the development of new initiatives based upon emerging trends and newly identified needs and develops and presents reports and proposals related to the core work of the Finance Department’s initiatives. This position will work closely with Finance, Operations resources and leadership. Develops, directs and implements URMFG Finance based information systems plans and initiatives. Directs and trains staff and resources to assure efficient and effective use of Finance systems.


Under general direction and with considerable latitude for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative:

Manages and oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of designated projects related to URMFG Finance. Collects and analyzes information, identifies, interprets and communicates trends and develops recommendations to achieve specified Finance project goals. Advises on projects and prepares special reports and analyses as requested. Organizes project planning, participates, and collaborates with project teams and other organizational work groups, committees, and councils. Serves as a liaison with both external contacts and management.

On a regular and on-going basis, analyzes and interprets organizational information, identifying key drivers and underlying issues, performs appropriate drill down queries, summarizes and presents findings and opportunities. Work requires independent design and completion of analyses.

Performs value-added analytics in the development and monitoring of standard and ad-hoc reporting, the identification and understanding of trends and patterns, and the development and evaluation of Finance programs.

Formulates and prepares project plans with activities, dependencies, dates and timeframes, resource requirements, milestones and deliverables. Monitors progress of project activities and insures all critical implementation criteria are met and provides status reports to URMFG leadership. Drives the development of appropriate project metrics and outcomes during the design phase of new finance or operations projects with an understating of available and reliable data.

Designs and conducts analyses to evaluate the overall effectiveness of projects including achieving financial program goals and quantifies the impact of clinical initiatives on overall medical expenses and trends.

Serves as liaison with Finance members to plan and implement assigned projects and identify, research and resolve clinical and operational issues/problems.


Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Healthcare Administration related degree, or a related field; 3-5 years of management level experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience; knowledge of Project Management concepts and principles required; Graduate degree in Business, or Health Administration preferred.
