Responsibilities

Applications are invited for a Visiting Instructor in environmental epidemiology at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC). This Visiting Instructor will work to analyze and publish data from a study of the changes in composition and sources of PM2.5 in Atlanta, Los Angeles, and New York City to provide the exposure data necessary to examine associations between source-specific PM2.5 exposures and emergency department visits for cardiorespiratory diseases. Tasks will include: Determine the source-specific PM2.5 air pollution exposures in Los Angeles and Atlanta over the period of 2005 to 2019 by analyzing the Chemical Speciation Network data from those cities; Determine the trends in the source-specific PM2.5 based on the apportioned source contributions; Determine the source apportionment of the speciation data collected in the Multiple Air Toxics Exposure Study (MATES) campaigns operated between 2004 and 2019 to permit the assessment of the spatial/temporal variations of source-specific PM2.5 across the LA metropolitan area; and Develop improved methods to estimate the uncertainties in the source-specific PM2.5 contributions as measures of exposure misclassification.

The Visiting Instructor will be based in the Department of Public Health Sciences, Division of Epidemiology at URMC, and will be advised by Dr. David Rich and Dr. Philip Hopke. This Visiting Instructor will also have substantial interaction with other research team members at URMC in biostatistics and pulmonology and critical care medicine and collaborators from Emory University and the Georgia Institute of Technology. The appointment will require analysis of data, preparation and publication of manuscripts, and presentation of study results at national and international conferences.

Applicants should have knowledge of chemometrics and related chemical data analyses and must have a PhD or ScD in a related field (e.g., Chemistry, Atmospheric Science, or Exposure Science). Knowledge of R as well as written and verbal fluency in English, is required. Applicants should have the ability to work independently and in group settings.

The appointment is for 1 year. The candidate should plan to start the appointment on or about June 1, 2022.
